This Week's Episodes

It’s a historic moment for the Chaldean Church! With bishops gathered at the Vatican for the Chaldean Synod, what actually happens at a synod, how are bishops chosen, and what could these decisions mean for the future of our Church? This week, we’re breaking it all down with a canon lawyer.

We’re also continuing our journey through the wisdom of the early Christian writer Narsai, exploring what Abraham and Sarah, John the Baptist, and even a clever thief can teach us about God’s plan and how He guides us through our failures.

And for our youngest viewers, Faithful Little's is exploring the Christian roots of Halloween, the meaning of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, and some of our beloved saints in a fun “Who Am I?” challenge. From important conversations about the future of the Chaldean Church to timeless lessons from Scripture and faith-filled family fun, there’s something for everyone this week!

What Is a Chaldean Synod?

A Canon Lawyer Breaks It Down

What even is a synod, and why does this upcoming Chaldean one matter so much? It’s been a historic week for the Chaldean Church. The Patriarch celebrated an ecclesial Communion Mass with Cardinal Tagle (representing Pope Leo), and the Chaldean liturgy was offered inside St. Peter’s Basilica with nearly every Chaldean bishop, many priests, and faithful from around the world present. With the bishops gathered at the Vatican, the synod now begins. This synod is Patriarch Paulus Nona III's first and it will help set the direction for a Church where most of us now live outside Iraq.

We talk about how bishops actually get elected, what the synod can and can’t decide on liturgy and language, the age-limit rule that changed under Pope Francis, and why lots of rumors and gossip, unfortunately, surround synods. If you’ve been hearing names and theories in the group chat, hopefully we can prepare you for what to realistically expect. Pray for God’s will, for the Patriarch, and for the whole Chaldean Church.

Narsai of Nisibis on Divine Pedagogy | Ep.2

Elements in Early Christian Literature.

Abraham and Sarah: Memra 3 Within the classroom of creation, God’s lessons often come by means of concrete, human examples, with which the scriptures abound. This section will discuss three of Narsai’s memre on the exemplars related by scripture – one from the Old Testament and two from the New.

John the Baptist: Memra 7 Memra 7, on John the Baptist, begins with a reference to a mysterious phrase spoken by Christ in Matthew 11:12: ‘From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.’

The Clever Thief: Memra 37 Remember that Narsai is certain that God knew of Adam’s disobedience ahead of time and incorporated Adam’s disobedience into his pedagogi- cal plan. God also knows that we will fail and is ready to teach us how to deal with failure. Yet again, Narsai notices that God teaches us by means of an example found in the scriptures.
