Our Daily Bread

We, at times, become the problems of over complicating issues when we are faced with them in our daily lives. This is contrary to what our faith teaches us. For instance, look at the prayer that Jesus taught us, the Our Father.

He tells us to say “give us this day our daily bread.” Jesus does not tell us to think about yesterday or tomorrow; instead, he tells us to ask for today’s bread.

This is key to combating the over complications of life. In the gospel for this Sunday, Jesus reminds us of this important reality. He tells us the obvious that we will undergo pain and suffering but ensures us that it is not the end. He mentions a sort of happiness that awaits us that no one is able to take away.

This is the happiness of the kingdom of heaven. He calls us to live our lives day-by-day and at that same time remembering that eternal happiness awaits us.
