The Catholic Church was founded not on human strength, but on the unshakable foundation of Jesus Christ. When Christ spoke to St. Peter, the first pope, he declared, “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). From the very beginning, the Church was meant to stand firm in the midst of the world’s storms. Its endurance does not come from the perfection of its leaders or members, but from the promise and power of Christ Himself.

Throughout history, the Church has experienced moments of great holiness as well as moments of profound human weakness. Even the apostles themselves struggled. St. Peter denied Christ three times, yet he became the leader of the  Church. This reminds us that God works through imperfect people. The Church’s mission continues not because her members are flawless, but because God’s grace sustains her.

Across two thousand years, the Church has also been strengthened by countless saints who responded faithfully to God’s call. The saints remind us that holiness is always possible in every age. Their lives show that while human weakness exists, God continually raises up men and women who renew the Church through faith, humility, and love.

At the same time, the Church’s endurance does not depend only on great saints or leaders. It also rests on the quiet faithfulness of ordinary believers—parents teaching their children to pray, parishioners serving their communities, and individuals striving to live the Gospel in daily life. These hidden acts of faith are the living stones that continue to build up the Body of Christ in every generation.

For believers today, this truth should be a source of deep hope. When we see the weaknesses and sins that exist within the Church, we should remember that the Church ultimately belongs to Christ. He guides her, purifies her, and continually calls her members to repentance and renewal. Our response should not be discouragement, but deeper faith and commitment.

Christ also promised that He would remain with His Church always. Through the sacraments, the preaching of the Gospel, and the life of the faithful, His presence continues to guide and sustain His people. In every age, the Holy Spirit renews the Church, calling her back to the heart of the Gospel and strengthening her to carry out her mission in the world.

Each of us is called to be part of the Church’s  renewal and purification. By prayer, by living the Gospel, and by supporting one another in faith, we participate in the mission Christ entrusted to His people. The Church stands firm not because of human perfection, but because Christ Himself remains her foundation.
